Mastopexy
What is it?
Also known as a breast lift, mastopexy is a surgery that allows the breast to be lifted, with increased projection of the upper pole and aesthetic repositioning of the areola and nipple, through the removal of excess skin and remodeling of the breast tissues with redefinition of their contour in a more attractive way

When is it indicated?
It is indicated when the woman wants a more rejuvenated appearance of the breast, which has sagged and changed over time, due to loss of skin elasticity and support capacity, with loss of volume and projection, sometimes with asymmetry, as a result of:
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Weight variations
- Age
- Heredity
It is indicated for women who are predictably satisfied with the breast volume and projection that will result from the remodeling of their breasts, who want a natural result and do not feel the need for additional volume or projection through the use of implants (mastopexy with augmentation) and who are:
- Being Healthy
- Non-smokers
- With expectations appropriate to your body situation and intrinsic conditions, such as skin elasticity and laxity, as well as the type and location of the resulting scars.
How is it done?
Mastopexy is performed through incisions that vary in location and extent, through which excess skin and some breast tissue (if necessary) is removed, followed by the remodeling and support of the remaining breast tissue with self-augmentation of the breast and superior repositioning of the areola-mamillary complex.
During the remodeling process, the asymmetry of the volume and size of the areolas is also corrected.
Type of anesthesia
Breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia, often with a laryngeal mask, a milder type of general anesthesia that allows post-operative recovery to be faster and better tolerated.
Type of scars
The location and extent of the scars depends on each case, depending on the degree of sagging, loss of elasticity and the amount of breast tissue available for remodeling.
In very mild mastopexies, the surgery can be performed through an incision limited to the periareolar area, but usually also involves a vertical incision, below the areola, and a horizontal incision may also be necessary (resulting in an inverted T-shaped scar), camouflaged in the lower breast crease, the extent of which depends on the amount of excess skin to be removed.
Benefits of mastopexy surgery
The results of mastopexy surgery are immediately visible, due to the aesthetic improvement in the appearance of the breast and décolleté, without the need for implants and the associated care and risks.
In the following weeks, there is an improvement in the associated edema, as well as an attenuation of the scars, with a very favorable result in terms of self-image.
The benefits are felt at various levels:
Increased self-esteem, due to the favorable impact on self-image and body harmony.
Improved quality of life, with better physical health, reduced discomfort and postural pain
More freedom in choosing clothes
Post-operative care
After a short hospital stay of 24 hours, recovery can usually take place at home.
You must comply with the medication and all the other recommendations of the medical team.
You will be accompanied by your team in the making of dressings for 10-12 days
Some limitation in activities involving arm movements will be advised in the first week, but no limitation in daily personal care and routine activities.
Intense exercise and exertion should be avoided for the first few days.
You will be advised to wear a bra post-operatively for 4-8 weeks
