Brazilian Butt Lift
What is it?
Gluteal lipofilling or Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a plastic surgery procedure that aims to improve the appearance and shape of the buttocks. The procedure involves transferring fat from other areas of the body, such as the abdomen, back or thighs, to the buttocks in order to increase the volume and improve the contour of the region.
During the procedure, the surgeon removes fat through liposuction and then injects it into the buttocks in order to shape them according to the patient’s needs and wishes. The end result is firmer, rounder and more voluminous buttocks.
It is important to emphasize that BBL is a complex surgery that presents risks and requires the surgeon’s skill and experience to be performed safely and obtain satisfactory results.
When BBL is performed in large volumes, it should be done under ultrasound control. Always check that your plastic surgeon is qualified for the surgery.
In addition, strict post-operative care is necessary to ensure proper recovery and maintenance of the results.
Who is it for?
- Increase the size of your buttocks;
- Improve the shape and contour of the buttocks;
- Correct gluteal asymmetries or deformities;
- Recover the volume of the buttocks after weight loss or aging.
Scars
Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) scars are generally small and discreet, as the procedure is performed through small incisions made in the skin for liposuction and fat injection.
The incisions are made in strategic places to minimize scarring, such as in the natural folds of the skin or in areas that can be easily hidden by underwear.
However, it’s important to remember that healing can vary from person to person and depends on various factors, such as genetics, age, skin type, the size and depth of the incisions, among others. It is essential to follow the plastic surgeon’s instructions on how to care for the incisions.
Type of anesthesia
- General anesthesia: this is the most common form of anesthesia used in BBL surgeries, where the patient is completely sedated and unconscious throughout the procedure.
- Epidural anesthesia: this is a form of regional anesthesia in which a drug is injected into the lumbar region of the spine to numb the lower part of the body. The patient remains awake during the procedure, but feels no pain.
- Local anesthesia with sedation: this is a less common option in which the patient receives an injection of local anesthetic to numb the area where the liposuction and fat injection will be performed. In addition, the patient receives light sedation to keep them relaxed during the procedure.
Results and benefits
In general, the most common benefits of BBL include:
- Increased volume and projection of the buttocks: the transfer of fat to the buttocks allows the plastic surgeon to create a more voluminous and projected gluteal region according to the patient’s preferences.
- Improving the shape and contour of the buttocks: BBL can improve the shape and symmetry of the buttocks, correcting asymmetries, depressions and other deformities.
- Long-lasting results: the fat transferred to the buttocks is permanent and therefore the results of BBL can last for many years.
- Improved self-esteem: many patients report an increase in self-esteem and confidence after surgery due to the improved appearance of their buttocks.
- Reducing fat in other areas of the body: the liposuction performed during the procedure can also reduce excess fat in other areas of the body, such as the abdomen, back and thighs, providing a more defined and sculpted silhouette.
In addition, strict post-operative care is required to ensure a proper recovery and minimize the risk of complications.
Post-operative care
- Wear compression garments: wearing compression garments is recommended to help reduce swelling and inflammation in the area of the surgery.
- Avoid sitting or lying on the buttocks: it is recommended to avoid sitting or lying directly on the buttocks for the first two weeks after surgery to allow the tissue to recover properly.
- Avoid intense physical activity: intense physical activity should be avoided in the first few weeks after surgery to allow proper recovery and minimize the risk of complications.
- Taking prescribed medication: prescribed medication, such as painkillers and antibiotics, should be taken as prescribed to help control pain and prevent infection.
- Lymphatic drainage: lymphatic drainage sessions can help reduce swelling and inflammation and speed up recovery.
- Follow a healthy diet: a healthy, balanced diet is important to provide the body with the nutrients it needs to recover properly after surgery.
- Follow up with the plastic surgeon: it is important to follow up regularly with the plastic surgeon to assess recovery and identify any problems or early complications.
