Breast augmentation

What is it?

Breast augmentation is the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery in the world.

This is a surgical procedure that allows the volume of the breast to be increased and its shape to be modified by placing breast implants (prostheses).

There are various types of implants that differ in shape, projection and volume, making it possible to tailor the best option for each woman to achieve the ideal results and expectations.

Women who are dissatisfied with the size, projection, shape and/or symmetry of their breasts and want to improve their body image and harmony.

Women who undergo breast augmentation should have expectations appropriate to their body situation, as the aim is for breast augmentation to result in body harmony, so it should be adapted to the elasticity and laxity of the skin, as well as the volume and shape of the existing breast.

Through a small incision, which will leave an almost imperceptible scar, implants (prostheses) are placed, the texture, shape, volume and projection of which must meet the patient’s expectations and be suited to her physical characteristics, all of which should be discussed with her surgeon.

It is usually performed under anesthesia with a laryngeal mask, a type of anesthesia that allows post-operative recovery to be faster and better tolerated.

The scar is usually located in the lower periareolar region, in the lower breast fold or in the axillary region.

The periareolar approach, at the transition from the edge of the areola to the skin area, leaves a scar that is practically unnoticeable, which is why it is one of the choices of choice. It is also a preferred option when there are large areolas or size asymmetries that can be corrected at the same time.

The inframammary scar is camouflaged in the lower sulcus of the breast, in the area of the fold, so it is a widely used and aesthetically pleasing option.

The axillary approach, although it can result in a very favorable scar, is less used because it requires greater technical complexity in the approach and access to the implant placement area is less direct.

Implants can vary in shape (round or anatomical, drop-shaped), projection (from low to extra-high projection, including intermediate degrees), coating (smooth or textured) and content (the prostheses we use have highly cohesive silicone gel, which allows for natural flexibility and mobility).

Breast augmentation is one of the paradigms of cosmetic surgery, due to its very immediate results. Although the final result of the surgery should only be considered after a few months, during which the breast adapts to the new morphology and volume, the immediate post-operative result is very gratifying, with a great impact on self-esteem. Several aspects contribute to this:

  • Fast results with equally fast surgery
  • Quick recovery
  • Immediate impact on the neckline
  • Improved body harmony and image rejuvenation
  • Different clothing possibilities
